Oprah's New Network Goes Live

The Discovery Health channel has officially turned into Oprah’s OWN Network. So what’s showing? Don’t expect to see Oprah 24/7: As she winds down her talk show, she’ll only host a behind-the-scenes documentary about her daytime show and introduce Oprah Presents Master Class, where celebrities like Jay-Z, Diane Sawyer, and Simon Cowell talk about their careers. This weekend’s programming will mostly just be sneak peeks at what’s ahead; During the week, shows hosted by Gayle King, Dr. Phil, and Carson Kressley, as well as reality shows about prison and miracles will begin premiering. The network’s “backbone,” according to the New York Post, will be reruns of Oprah’s talk show that are edited anew as “theme shows,” but they won’t begin airing until September.
