A district court judge in Oregon Monday struck down the state's marriage law as violating the constitution because it discriminates on the basis of sexual orientation "without a rational relationship to any legitimate government interest." Judge Michael McShane wrote of the plaintiffs: "Despite the fact that these couples present so vividly the characteristics of a loving and supportive relationship, none of these ideals we attribute to marriage are spousal prerequisities under Oregon law."
