The ex-wife of suspected mass shooter Omar Mateen says she was repeatedly beaten throughout their marriage, characterizing Mateen as mentally disturbed and violent. “He would just come home and start beating me up because the laundry wasn't finished or something like that,” the ex-wife anonymously told The Washington Post. She also said Mateen was neither very religious nor drawn to radical Islam during their marriage, which began in March 2009, and that he owned a handgun and worked as a security guard. Mateen is accused of killing 50 people and injuring at least 53 others in a mass shooting at an Orlando nightclub—the deadliest in U.S. history.
