The nominations for the 86th Academy Awards are in and there are few surprises. Amy Adams, Cate Blanchett, Sandra Bullock, Judi Dench, and Meryl Streep received nominations for Best Actress. For Best Actor, Christian Bale, Bruce Dern, Leonardo DiCaprio, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Matthew McConaughey were named. For Best Supporting Actor, the nominations went to Barkhad Abdi, Bradley Cooper, Michael Fassbender, Jonah Hill, and Jared Leto. For Best Supporting Actress, Sally Hawing, Jennifer Lawrence, Lupita Nyong'o, Julia Roberts, and June Squibb got nods. With more new names than the other categories, the nominations for Best Director included David O. Russell, Alfonso Cuaron, Alexander Payne, Steve McQueen, and Martin Scorcese. And finally, the nominations for Best Film were American Hustle, Captain Phillips, Dallas Buyers Club, Gravity, Her, Nebraska, Philomena, 12 Years a Slave, and The Wolf of Wall Street.
