Mat Kirkby and James Lucas’ The Phone Call won a well-deserved Oscar Sunday night for Best Live Action Short Film. Previous nominee Sally Hawkins (Blue Jasmine) and winner Jim Broadbent (Iris) give two of the year's most heartwrenching performances as a suicide prevention hotline operator and her distraught caller, respectively.
Keep tissues handy, because this beautifully made short packs a three-hour epic’s worth of emotion into just 20 minutes.
UPDATE: Sadly, the full short is no longer available at the link we originally posted. The trailer is below and the full short film is available, along with the other nominated shorts, for rent or purchase on Vimeo on Demand.
