Zahra Shahid Hussain, one of the founding members of Imran Khan’s political party, was shot and killed late Saturday. The motives behind the attack were unclear. A local leader of Hussain’s party, the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), said that Hussain at first mistook the gunmen for robbers, and handed over her purse—but instead they issued a fatal shot to her chin. Khan, a former cricket star who burst onto the national political scene in this month’s election, blamed the death on rival political leader Altaf Hussain of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, or MQM. Khan himself was injured in a fall earlier this month just prior to the election. Meanwhile, parts of Karachi voted again Sunday.
