Palestinian police opened fire, killing one and wounding four, on a group of worshippers at a holy site in the West Bank city of Nablus. Although the Israeli army often coordinates with Palestinian security forces to escort Jewish worshippers to the site, this trip hadn't been authorized. The army didn't immediately classify the shooting as a terrorist attack, but Defense Minister Ehud Barak called it “murder” and added that “no coordination mishap can justify such an incident.” This latest attack came six weeks after a family was killed in Itamar, a Jewish settlement near Nablus. Hours after the attack, a Palestinian car in a nearby village was set ablaze and Israelis and Palestinians threw rocks at each other.
