Palestinians Reclaim Acres of Settlement

40 years later

Land was lost 40 years ago to Israel.

In a rare legal victory, a group of Palestinian farmers were granted the rights back for 500 acres of land they had lost 40 years ago to an Israeli settlement. The government had seized the area from residents of Burka in the West Bank. It was used to build the Homesh settlement, which was bulldozed eight years ago during the Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, but the original owners were barred from returning. Last week, the military lifted those restrictions and allowed the farmers back onto their land.
