Palin Struggles in Alaska

Struggling to balance her job as Alaska's chief executive with her new stature as one of the national Republican Party's top leaders, Governor Sarah Palin has been mired in constant conflict with state lawmakers ever since returning from the presidential campaign. In recent days alone, Palin has feuded with Democrats over appointing a new State Senator, defended an attorney general pick whose confirmation hearings have turned ugly, and battled criticism that she's spending too much time outside of the state keeping up her national profile. That's all in addition to her extremely public battle against Levi Johnston, the father of her grandson, which has become a national sideshow. Palin isn't faring much better in the lower 48—she recently lost a plum speaking slot in D.C. to Newt Gingrich.
