Paris Metro Removes Christian Ad

DRAMA

Hearing to be held Wednesday.

CHREDO, a French group working on behalf of Christians persecuted in the Middle East, asked a court this weekend to rule on whether or not the firm operating the Paris subway was allowed to refuse to display an ad with the phrase “Christians of the East.” A French music group “The Priests” tried to advertise their June concert from which proceeds would go to Christians in Iraq and Syria with a banner in the metro. However, the state-owned RATP firm ordered the banner saying ads had to be neutral “in the context of an armed conflict abroad.” However, the bishop who created the band, Bishop Jean-Michel Di Falco Leandri, says the firm previously told him it was because of the religions phrase “Christians of the East.” A hearing will be held on Wednesday.
