The only surviving suspect from the 2015 Paris terror attacks, which killed 130 people, has refused to answer questions on the first day of his trial in Belgium. Salah Abdeslam, 28, told the court he was “not afraid” and refused to stand for questioning. Abdeslam fled France for Belgium, where a shootout with police led to his arrest in March 2016. “My silence does not make me a criminal, it’s my defense,” said Abdeslam on Monday, adding: “Muslims are judged and treated in the worst of ways, mercilessly. There is no presumption of innocence.” Abdeslam’s trial is expected to last four days.
