Massive Cumberland River flood sparks blackouts.

With downtown Nashville still submerged in water from massive flooding, power and sewage services have been knocked out to thousands of customers. "Power will be out for the next few days downtown due to water in underground vaults," the mayor said. The Cumberland River, which runs through the heart of downtown Nashville, swelled 12 feet above sea level this weekend, flooding tourist sites like the Grand Ole Opry and a football stadium. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers called the storms that caused the flooding a “1,000 year event.” Tennessee officials reported 19 deaths due to the storms, and the governor has declared a state of emergency in 52 of the state’s 95 counties.
