Patients at Risk From Radiation Accidents

Thousands are injured by over-dosing and nobody is in charge.

Powerful new radiation programs are curing disease and saving lives, but in a major investigation, The New York Times reveals that thousands of patients have been injured, some fatally. The causes are computer software glitches, faulty programming of complicated machinery, inadequate staffing, and training. The records the Times found suggests accidents are chronically under-reported, some states don’t even require they be reported at all, alerts are ignored, and there is no single central monitoring agency.
