Speaking to MSNBC’s Chris Matthews from the RNC floor ahead of Donald Trump’s speech Thursday night, campaign chair Paul Manafort made a statement that is unlikely to help his candidate shake his “war on women” reputation. Asked by Matthews how Trump plans to appeal to female voters who believe he is sexist against Hillary Clinton, Manafort replied, “Well, again, it depends on which women you're talking about, there's many women in this country feel they can't afford their lives. Their husbands can’t afford paying for the family bills.” That comment caused Matthews to ask, “You know what you just said? You just said women are concerned about their husband's income? Is that the twenty-first century talking? That that's their big concern, how their husband is doing at work?”
