House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) said Monday that he felt “encouraged” by the Congressional Budget Office’s findings on his party’s proposed health-care legislation. “I’m pretty encouraged,” he told reporters. “It actually exceeded my expectations.” The non-partisan budget analysis agency found that, under the Republican plan, 14 million Americans would be uninsured next year; and that figure would rise to 24 million by 2026. However, the CBO also found that the plan would trim $337 billion from the federal deficit—a finding that likely “encourages” Rep. Ryan, an ardent deficit hawk.
