Former House Speaker Paul Ryan has warned Donald Trump he'll lose the 2020 election if he relies on his personality. In some of his first public comments since leaving Congress two months ago, Ryan said Monday: “The person who defines that race is going to win the race. If this is about Donald Trump and his personality, he isn’t going to win it.” In his lecture in Vero Beach, Florida, Ryan urged the president to focus on policy in his reelection campaign and told the audience that he believes there are some Democrats who are capable of unseating Trump in 2020. According to Politico, Ryan also criticized the polarization that was a defining feature of his time as speaker, placed blamed on the hardline conservative House Freedom Caucus for derailing attempts to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, and hit out at technology for deepening the political divide.
