Everybody breathe. Big Bird ain’t going anywhere. Despite Mitt Romney’s zeitgeist-seizing comment at Wednesday night’s presidential debate that he planned to cut funding for PBS—and presumably put the Sesame Street character’s very existence in jeopardy—Sherrie Westin, the chief marketing officer of Sesame Workshop, says that Big Bird and Sesame Street are safe. “Sesame Workshop receive very, very little funding from PBS,” Sherrie Westin tells CNN’s Soledad O’Brien. When people say that Romney is “going to kill Big Bird—that is actually very misleading, because Sesame Street will still be here.”
