If you were to write down a list of adjectives to describe Kim Jong Un’s North Korea, it would probably take quite a long time before you finally got round to “peace-loving.” But that’s exactly how the Hermit Kingdom has described itself as it showered praise on the “noble fruition” of its plan to cool tensions between North and South Korea and stage a summit with President Donald Trump. “The great change in the north-south relations is not an accidental one but a noble fruition made thanks to [North Korea’s] proactive measure, warm compatriotism, and will for defending peace,” according to a statement issued to the state news agency. “Such an event as today could be possible as the [North Korea’s] dignity has remarkably risen and it has strong might.” Going on, the statement criticized “small-mindedness for the riff-raffs” to dismiss critics who have claimed that warmer relations led to international sanctions, saying that such talk is “just as meaningless as a dog barking at the moon.” Meanwhile South Korea has suggested making the future Trump/Kim summit a three-way meeting including its own leader, President Moon Jae-in.
