Pearlstein: Get This World Some Leaders!

The fall of leaders in Greece and Italy has sparked a furious debate about European “technocrats” taking over sovereign nations. The Washington Post’s Steven Pearlstein says the world is just paying the consequences of failed leadership. “Surely any definition of leadership includes the ability to get people to acknowledge unpleasant reality, and the willingness to take the personal risks necessary to secure the common good.” The politics of the moment drove Europe’s leaders to inaction, and now the U.S. faces the same choice. “The United States is at that ‘profile in courage’ moment when our leaders have to be willing to risk their careers in order to prevent a disaster.”
