Pelosi: Democrats Will Win

Speaker “never” thinks about losing the House.

She’s on the brink of an election that many see as a catastrophe for Democrats, but polarizing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is resolute: She will not lose. “I feel that we will be in the majority and that I will be speaker of the House,” Pelosi told skeptical reporters recently of the midterm elections. Polls have found the San Francisco Democrat to be one of the most controversial political figures in the nation, with unfavorable ratings nearing that of Sarah Palin—and higher than that of Congress overall. As for the Republicans campaigning against her—RNC Chair Michael Steele travels in a tour bus emblazoned with the words “Fire Pelosi!”—Pelosi attributes the strategy to “the bankruptcy of their ideas.”
