House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi on Thursday bemoaned that this week’s immigration negotiations were led by “five white guys”—a comment that drew criticism from her own deputy in Minority Whip Steny Hoyer. “The five white guys I call them, you know,” Pelosi quipped during a press briefing. “Are they going to open a hamburger stand next or what?” she quipped, referring to the Five Guys fast-food chain while lamenting the lack of minority voices at the DACA debate table. The five white men she mocked were Hoyer, Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn (R-TX), Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), and White House Chief of Staff John Kelly. In a statement to Politico, Hoyer said: “That comment is offensive. I am committed to ensuring DREAMers are protected and I will welcome everyone to the table who wants to get this done.”
