Penn on El Chapo: ‘My Article Failed’

Sean Penn spoke to Charlie Rose on Thursday night about his seven-hour interview with escaped Mexican cartel boss El Chapo. The drug lord gave Penn an exclusive interview for Rolling Stone while he was still in hiding. The actor denied any involvement in helping authorities find the fugitive, who was arrested one week ago. “We had met with him many weeks earlier... in a place nowhere near where he was captured,” Penn said. He added that he had only one regret—“I have a regret that the entire discussion about this article ignores its purpose, which was to try to contribute to this discussion about the policy in the war on drugs,” he said. “My article has failed.”
