After a year of negotiations, the Obama administration approved Pennsylvania’s alternative Medicaid expansion proposal on Thursday, a move that could extend health care benefits to about 600,000 uninsured people. The five-year demonstration project will allow the state to pay private insurers with federal money. The Healthy PA program is expected to roll out January 1st. "From the beginning, I said we needed a plan that as created in Pennsylvania, a plan that would allow us to reform a financially unsustainable Medicaid program and increase access to health care for eligible individuals through the private market," Pennsylvania Governor Corbett said.
