The Mafia, while immortalized by television shows, is mostly feared. They use incredible tactics to force citizens to hand over their hard-earned money. Usually the Mafia will compel business owners or individuals to pay them a “protection fee,” and if they refuse, the gangs will use shakedown tactics to force them to pay up, sometimes resorting to violence, blackmail or some other means of thuggery to get their way.
It’s not a stretch to say that Planned Parenthood’s tactics to force the Susan G. Komen Foundation to restore their funding were no less than a Mafia-style shakedown of a charity whose only purpose is to help prevent and treat breast cancer.
Planned Parenthood and their cohorts in the media effectively bullied the Susan G. Komen Foundation into emptying their pockets and filling Planned Parenthood’s own coffers, even when the breast cancer charity said they did not want to fund the abortion giant any longer.
Just like the Mafia, Planned Parenthood unleashed a torrential wave of vicious, cruel and harsh attacks targeting the Komen Foundation solely because they thought their decision was a bad one and that Planned Parenthood somehow deserved that money, even though they merely refer women for mammograms and don’t perform any themselves.
Nancy Brinker, Komen’s founder who lost her sister to breast cancer, was forced to defend herself in a hostile media environment and eventually apologized for the foundation’s decision.
While Brinker’s position may be secure for the moment, Karen Handel, vice president of public policy, resigned recently. Handel is pro-life and did not believe Komen should be funding Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider. Handel reiterated Komen’s position that the funding issue is not a political one but rather a business decision that would give money to groups who actually do mammograms, unlike Planned Parenthood.
The thugs over at Planned Parenthood coordinated their efforts in the media—both mainstream and social—to effectively discredit an organization that has raised close to $2 billion to help fight breast cancer. Planned Parenthood provides close to one-third of the country’s abortions, killing over 320,000 unborn children a year. They aren’t exactly a mecca of breast cancer prevention programs. No wonder Komen pulled the plug on their grants.
Last April, the federal government nearly shut down because conservatives wanted to stop funding Planned Parenthood. (Taxpayer dollars and Medicaid payments makes up 46 percent of the organization’s budget.) But true to their mafia-style tactics, Planned Parenthood’s biggest supporter in President Obama refused to allow government money to stop flowing to the abortion giant and forced Republicans to cave.
The lesson to anyone who crosses Planned Parenthood is that they will pay dearly for their treason, just like those who refuse to pay up to mafia thugs. But we can’t let them win. They are a corrupt organization and if we who stand for life refuse to bow down to the altar of abortion, we will win, and Planned Parenthood will be merely a memory.
