What if a waiter told you that the daily special was Sea Kitten Braised with Leeks napped in a light lemon sauce? PETA is counting on our collective gag reflexes to activate as they set about renaming fish "sea kittens." PETA obviously feels that this rebranding will reduce the consumption of fish: "Most parents would never dream of spending a weekend torturing kittens for fun with their families, but hooking a sea kitten through the mouth and dragging her through the water is the same as hooking a kitten through the mouth and dragging her behind your car," spokesperson Byrne says. The fishing industry doesn't quite see it that way, and fears that this could hurt business. However, PETA thinks it will just shift jobs around. "So as there is less of a demand for foods like fish, there is more of a demand for other foods, and jobs open up in those industries."
