The Hobbit films may not be doomed after all: Tolkien fans who were disappointed when director Guillermo del Toro stepped down from the two-film project will be pleased to hear that Peter Jackson himself is negotiating to direct the films. Jackson, who directed the Lord of the Rings trilogy, has so far denied rumors that he’ll take over, but Deadline Hollywood says it has word of Jackson’s involvement from “trusted sources.”
