An employee of Silicon Valley entrepreneur Peter Thiel reportedly assisted Cambridge Analytica, the Trump campaign’s data firm, in harvesting Americans’ Facebook data. The employee of Palantir Technologies in London, The New York Times reports, recommended to Cambridge Analytica that the company develop its own software “to gain access to Facebook users’ friend networks.” Thiel sits on Facebook’s board and founded Palantir. “We learned today that an employee, in 2013-2014, engaged in an entirely personal capacity with people associated with Cambridge Analytica,” Palantir said in a statement about the employee, Alfredas Chmieliauskas.
