A petition asking Britain to withdraw an invitation for President Trump to visit the United Kingdom has surpassed more than one million signatures. The effort began even before British Prime Minister Theresa May extended the invite for Trump’s visit with Queen Elizabeth II. The petition gained momentum after Trump signed an executive order halting refugees from Syria and six other Muslim-majority countries from coming into the United States for 120 days. Once a government petition passes 100,000 signatures, legislators must consider the issue for debate. “Donald Trump should be allowed to enter the U.K. in his capacity as head of the U.S. Government, but he should not be invited to make an official State Visit because it would cause embarrassment to Her Majesty the Queen,” the petition said. “Donald Trump’s well documented misogyny and vulgarity disqualifies him from being received by Her Majesty the Queen or the Prince of Wales.”
