Court documents obtained by Politico claim former CIA Director David Petraeus shared highly classified information with reporters. The allegation, which was filed in an FBI affidavit, was reportedly uncovered during the 2011 investigation that led to Petraeus’s resignation and criminal charges. FBI officials reportedly told a federal magistrate the agency possessed recordings in which Petraeus told journalists about “top secret” information. An FBI agent states in the document that one recording features Petraeus telling a Washington Post reporter that he’d like to be “on background as a senior military officer” for an article. Of the tape, Special Agent Diane Wehner wrote, “Petraeus discusses sensitive military campaigns and operations, some of which, on the basis of a preliminary review... is believed to contain classified information, including information at the Top Secret level.”
