A court-ordered psychiatric evaluation has delivered a major blow to Oscar Pistorius’ defense team. A panel of mental-health experts submitted a report to Judge Thokozile Masipa definitively stating “Mr. Pistorius did not suffer from a mental illness or defect that would have rendered him criminally not responsible for the offense charged.” The defense claimed that Pistorius was suffering from an anxiety disorder when he shot girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp dead on Valentine’s Day 2013. The former Olympian was deemed “capable of appreciating the wrongfulness of his act.” Pistorius faces 25 years to life in prison.
