A 76-year-old survivor of the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting told the Associated Press that he saw the gunman, Robert Bowers, step over a dead body and search through the space for more people while he and others hid in a supply closet. “I can’t say anything, and I’m barely breathing,” said Barry Werber. “He didn’t see us, thank God.” Bowers killed a total of 11 people Saturday morning in a 20-minute shooting rampage while services were occurring at the Tree of Life synagogue. Most of the victims were elderly, with the youngest 54 years old and the eldest 97. At a Sunday night vigil, Rabbi Jeffrey Myers told attendants “My holy place has been defiled.”
