Molly Wei, the former Rutgers University student who allegedly helped her friend record and distribute a tape of fellow student Tyler Clementi in a sexual encounter with another man, pleaded not guilty to charges of invasion of privacy Friday, but she was admitted to a pretrial intervention program. Wei will undergo a three-year program of counseling associated with cyberbullying and alternate and cultural lifestyles, and she must serve 300 hours of community service. Under the terms of the agreement, Wei must also testify against Dharun Ravi, who allegedly secretly taped Clementi and streamed the video online. Ravi has been indicted on 15 counts of invasion of privacy, bias intimidation, tampering with physical evidence, witness tampering, and hindering apprehension or prosecution. Clementi, Ravi’s roommate, killed himself by leaping off the George Washington Bridge in September, reportedly after finding out that he had been taped.
