Polish officials on Monday published a new detailed and complete list of Nazi SS guards and commanders at the Auschwitz German death camp, in a long-running attempt to bring those who took part in the violence of the Holocaust to justice. The SS KL Auschwitz Garrison list is reportedly based on data from Polish, German, Austrian, and American archives, according to the Institute of National Remembrance. "The world justice system has failed and I'm doing what a historian should do: expose the responsible individuals as war criminals," said historian Aleksander Lasik. The list currently has more than 8,500 entries. Lasik built it to include the names, dates, nationalities, and military service by searching through archives over a period of 30 years.
