An 8-month-old baby girl left outside for three days in a plastic bag survived the ordeal, and her 17-year-old mother now faces attempted-murder charges in New York state. The baby was in stable condition Wednesday after being discovered by two Elmira residents a day earlier. Kayla and Karen Seals, two sisters hailed as heroes for their find, said they heard sounds coming from their neighbor’s bushes and expected to see a dog. “Her legs were just dangling in the bag. Her head was in the bag. Her whole head was covered all the way down,” Kayla Seals told local news outlet WENY. The baby’s mother, identified as Harriette Hoyt, is accused of abandoning the child while visiting a friend in the area. She is being held on $250,000 bail and expected to appear in court Monday.
