Police: 92-Year-Old Woman Kills Son to Avoid Nursing Home

“You took my life, so I’m taking yours,” the woman allegedly said while being arrested.

A 92-year-old Arizona woman is accused of fatally shooting her son to avoid being sent to live in an assisted care facility. Anna Mae Blessing allegedly hid two pistols in her bathrobe before confronting her 72-year-old son at their home in Fountain Hills this week, according to a statement from the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office. “From my understanding, she had thought about it for a few days because there was a dispute regarding her son wanting to put her in an assisted living home,” Maricopa County Sgt. Bryant Vanejas told KPHO News. Her son’s girlfriend is said to have witnessed the alleged murder and heard Blessing tell her son she was tired of the way he treated her. “As the suspect was being escorted from the residence, she made a spontaneous statement to the effect of ‘You took my life, so I'm taking yours,’” court documents show, according to CNN. Blessing faces charges of first-degree murder, aggravated assault, and kidnapping.
