A 20-year-old Brooklyn man was arrested by the NYPD after he confessed to killing his 4-year-old brother by hurling him off a seven-story roof in the middle of the night. The suspect, Shawn Smith, is said to have confessed to police early Saturday, flagging down a police car near his home to tell officers where they could find the body of his toddler brother. Shimron Smith was soon found dead of “multiple blunt force injuries” in the courtyard outside his home, the medical examiner’s office said Saturday night. Surveillance footage reviewed by investigators reportedly shows the suspect carrying his little brother onto the roof in the middle of the night. The motive remains unclear, but neighbors have said Shawn Smith has a history of schizophrenia and was known for being “a little off.” After being arrested on second-degree murder charges, Smith declared to reporters outside the 70th Precinct on Saturday night, “I’ve finally become a criminal!”
