California authorities announced Friday that a woman who drove an SUV carrying her wife and children off a Mendocino cliff last month was intoxicated, according to the Associated Press. Patrol Captain Bruce Carpenter said that Jennifer Hart’s toxicology tests came back with an alcohol level of 0.102, and the state of California considers a blood alcohol level of 0.08 or higher to be illegal while driving. Sarah Hart and two of the children had in their bodies a “a significant amount” of an ingredient in Benadryl that's known to cause drowsiness. The March 26 crash killed both women and three of their children. Authorities say it appears the crash was deliberate. All six of the couple's adopted children are believed to have been in the car during the crash. Two of the children are still missing, and another body has been found but has not yet been identified.
