New York police say that escaped murderers Richard Matt and David Sweat may be contained in an area between the upstate towns of Dannemora and Plattsburgh. Search dogs picked up a scent that authorities say is their strongest lead yet. Helicopters and as many as 500 officers are also searching the area east of Dannemora. Matt is convicted of kidnapping, torturing, and dismembering his elderly former boss; Sweat is convicted of shooting and killing a sheriff’s deputy. Cops believed they had “cornered” the pair two days ago but came up empty-handed.
