Police: Man Held 81-Year-Old Ex-Marine Hostage for 4 Years
Suspect allegedly stole man’s vet benefits.
Handout/Police
An 81-year-old ex-Marine was held hostage in an upstate New York motel for four years, police said Thursday. The suspect, Perry Coniglio, is reported to have stolen the veteran’s benefits checks. Police were led to the room in Highlands, near West Point, after neighbors reported physical abuse that was caught on camera. Coniglio, 43, is believed to have used force and intimidation in order to keep the elderly man in his custody. He was charged with grand larceny and unlawful imprisonment, while the veteran was taken to a local hospital.
