The New York state judge who was found dead in the Hudson River on Wednesday likely committed suicide, a police official told the New York Daily News. Officials are awaiting autopsy results for the Court of Appeals judge, Sheila Abdus-Salaam, before making an official determination. Abdus-Salaam, 65, who lived in Harlem, was fully clothed when her body was recovered and there were no signs of body trauma. The police source told the Daily News that Abdus-Salaam struggled with depression. She was the country’s first female Muslim judge, and was appointed to her role in 2013 by New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
