Cleary those puppy paintings have softened his image. A new Gallup poll finds more Americans like George W. Bush now more than at any point since 2005. Forty-nine percent now view the former president favorably and 46 percent unfavorably. The war president turned artist has laid pretty low since leaving office—just recently emerging for the opening of his library—and it seems to have paid off. This sort of change isn't surpirsing, however; Americans have a short memory and it's common (with the exception of Nixon) for presidential approval to rise after our leaders have left.
