Times may be changing: A new poll from ABC News and The Washington Post finds that a slim majority of Americans support same-sex marriage, the first time that result has been found in nearly a decade of surveys. The poll found 53 percent of Americans endorsed gay marriage—up from 32 percent in 2004. The poll’s producer called it a “milestone result that caps a dramatic, long-term shift in public attitudes.” There are still bastions of opposition: Republicans opposed gay marriage by a ratio of 2 to 1, and evangelical white Protestants oppose it 3 to 1.
