Pope Francis came out swinging at the Italian mafia on Friday. “Blood-stained money, blood-stained power, you can't bring it with you to your next life. Repent,” the pope said at a vigil in Rome organized for the relatives of those killed by the mafia. The meeting was designed to emphasize the Vatican’s opposition to organized crime, and to reject publicly the church’s historic ties to mafia members who claimed to be good Catholics.
