The day before Pope Francis met with Kentucky county clerk Kim Davis, he held a private meeting with a same-sex couple in the United States. Yayo Grassi, an openly gay friend from Argentina and his partner came to the Vatican embassy for a meeting on Sept. 23. Grassi claims the meeting was arranged personally by the pope weeks before his arrival in the United States. “Three weeks before the trip, he called me on the phone and said he would love to give me a hug,” Grassi said.
