Pope: Sex Scandal’s Scope ‘Unimaginable’

Not your usual pre-Christmas benediction: Pope Benedict XVI said on Monday that the Catholic Church priest-abuse scandal has reached a “degree we could not have imagined.” In one of his frankest discussion’s of the scandal, he continued, “We must ask ourselves what we can do to repair as much as possible the injustice that has occurred. We must ask ourselves what was wrong in our proclamation, in our whole way of living the Christian life, to allow such a thing to happen.” However, he also implied that society shares part of the blame for creating a sexually permissive "context."
