It’s a good thing Rob Portman’s son didn’t mind being outed by his dad. The Ohio Republican senator’s son, Will Portman, a junior at Yale, penned an op-ed in the Yale Daily News saying he was “proud of my dad.” Portman, who had been considered a viable vice-presidential pick for Mitt Romney, reversed his previous position and threw his support behind gay marriage earlier this month, saying that his son’s sexuality had influenced him. Will Portman admitted it was “strange” to have his sexuality discussed on the evening news, and he calls his father a “good man.” “We’re all the products of our backgrounds and environments, and the issue of marriage for same-sex couples is a complicated nexus of love, identity, politics, ideology and religious beliefs,” writes Will Portman.
