One person has been described by French officials as “brain dead” and five others are critically ill after a cannabis-based drug trial in France. Reports say all of the patients were healthy until they took the oral medicine, which contained cannabinoids. Health Minister Marisol Touraine said the participants were involved in a “trial of an oral medication being developed by a European laboratory.” French media reported that the medication was to be used as a painkiller. All trials on the drug in Rennes, Brittany, have been suspended, and a criminal investigation has begun.
