The Census Bureau’s annual report on poverty, income, and health insurance showed that the U.S. poverty rate in 2011 remained steady at 15 percent and the number of people in poverty, 46.2 million, was basically unchanged since 2010. There was, however, another drop in median household income, which fell to $50,054, a 1.5 percent decline from the year before. The number of people without health insurance declined to 48.6 million last year, from 50 million in 2010.
