A typhoon hit the eastern Philippines on Christmas Day, causing damage in Asia's largest Catholic nation. Typhoon Nock-Ten made landfall on Sunday night with sustained winds of 114 miles per hour and knocking out power in the region. Governor Miguel Villafuerte of Camarines Sur province, which is forecast to be hit by the storm, offered roast pig to people in order to get them from their homes to evacuation centers. According to the government's weather agency, seven typhoons have hit the Philippines on Christmas Day in the last 65 years.
