Preet Bharara, the former U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York who was ousted by the Trump administration, has announced that he will join the New York University Law School in April. Bharara, during his tenure as a prosecutor, won numerous convictions against corrupt politicians and financiers, including Bernie Madoff and his associates and New York Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver. Bharara met with Trump after the 2016 election and later Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who both told him that he would be kept on board. This month, despite those assurances, he was fired. Bharara was also a chief counsel to Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY). “I welcome the chance to contribute in such a thoughtful setting,” said Bharara said Tuesday. “I am thrilled for this opportunity to continue addressing the issues I so deeply care about—criminal and social justice, honest government, national security, civil rights, and corporate accountability, to name a few.”
